External Affairs Update

This week BIVDA has continued our contact with the new Parliament, sending our tailored letters to those parliamentarians who have the most member companies in their constituency - Anthony Browne, the new MP for South Cambridgeshire, wins the contest with eight! We have invited all MPs to meet with us to discuss priorities for the IVD sector, and will be inviting member companies based in their constituencies to participate if they so wish. Doris-Ann and Jon Harrison also had a useful meeting with Anne-Marie Morris MP, who is running for Health Select Committee Chairman, and will be continuing her involvement with healthcare and life science focussed APPGs.

We are also progressing our plans for introductory roundtables in Parliament, both in partnership with the APPG for Life Sciences, and a BIVDA-led session to introduce MPs to the IVD industry and our policy asks for the new Government - we will keep members up to date on these plans with opportunities to attend and participate. As we approach Brexit it will also be critical to ensure Ministers are aware of the particular issues that regulatory divergence will have on our ability to trade with the EU, along with highlighting IVD priorities for any potential future trade negotiations with the United States - please do let us know your thoughts on these issues we can feed back in our conversations with Government.

We've also had useful catch ups with the BIA, ABPI and PAGB to discuss opportunities for joint working over the coming months - being new in role Jon is keen to get out and about to see stakeholders and members - please do pop backstage to say hello if you're in the BIVDA office! Jon can also be contacted for support on any lobbying issues on jonh@bivda.org.uk
