BIVDA welcomes the new Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, Victoria Atkins

BIVDA has noted the latest changes in the Prime Minister’s Cabinet and ministerial team. We would like to welcome the new Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, Victoria Atkins.

As the UK’s in vitro diagnostics (IVD) trade association, we have written to the new Secretary of State to set out the vital role our industry plays in the UK’s health, economic and pandemic preparedness interests.

We look forward to working together in future to strengthen the IVD sector to deliver on the UK’s preventive health agenda and improve patient health outcomes.

With IVDs informing almost three quarters of clinicians’ decisions and forming the fundamental element of early diagnoses, increasing access to innovative tests will help the Government to improve the efficiency and efficacy of the NHS.

About BIVDA

BIVDA is the national industry association for manufacturers and distributors of in vitro diagnostic tests in the UK, representing an estimated 97% of the industry and nearly 250 organisations. We advocate on behalf of industry to ensure that diagnostics can play a part not only in the diagnosis of conditions, but in prevention and treatment of disease.

Diagnostic tests perform a critical role, now more than ever in all NHS front line services and constitute one of the most innovative industries within the UK life sciences sector. Diagnostic test manufacturers also make a valuable contribution to the UK economy, employing more than 9,500 people and generating an annual turnover of £2.6 billion.
