BIVDA Celebrates Milestone 25th Anniversary

The British In Vitro Diagnostics Association (BIVDA) celebrated its milestone 25th Anniversary on Monday (8 May 2017) by hosting a reception for members and colleagues from across the life sciences industry.

Established in February 1992 as the national industry association for manufacturers and suppliers of in vitro diagnostics (IVD), BIVDA has worked to raise awareness of the clinical and cost utility of IVDs in the provision of effective healthcare.

The reception, held at their new offices on Oxford Street, London, was an opportunity to reflect on the past, present and future of the in vitro diagnostics (IVD) industry. To help further inform guests during the evening, a vibrant poster exhibition was set up which focused on a range of areas including milestones from BIVDA’s history and the value of IVDs for patients, the NHS and UK economy.

Building on current success to ensure a bright future for the sector was also a key theme of the evening. In a new report, the industry association set out the top four priority areas where further progress needs to be made: Increasing adoption of IVDs, playing a leading role in overcoming global health challenges, securing a new mechanism for the funding of IVDs and guaranteeing patient access to molecular diagnostics.

Commenting on the 25th Anniversary, BIVDA’s Chief Executive, Doris-Ann Williams MBE said:

“I am proud to be the Chief Executive of an association that represents such an innovative industry. Through working in collaboration with our members and colleagues, considerable progress has been made over the past 25 years, with more patients having access to the right diagnostics at the right time.

“Looking to the future, I am excited to see the progress that will be achieved over the next 25 years. We are facing a number of challenges including Brexit and the ongoing issues concerning the slow adoption of IVDs. However, I am confident that by continuing to work in partnership, we can ensure the IVD industry has a vibrant future for the benefit of patients, the NHS and the UK economy”.
