BIVDA statement on the publication of the NHS Long Term Plan

Following Government’s announcement of additional funding for the NHS in June 2018, the NHS Long Term Plan for England was published today. The plan aims to set out the health service’s ambitions for improvement over the next decade and its plans to meet them over the five years of the funding settlement.

Doris-Ann Williams, BIVDA’s Chief Executive, commented: “We welcome the publication of the NHS Long Term Plan for England. We will study the plan and its contents in detail and continue to engage on the challenges and opportunities ahead for our health system to improve efficiencies and outcomes. At a time of significant advances in science and technology, it is imperative that measures recognise the importance of the IVD industry, and fully harness the potential and value of tests to diagnose disease earlier and more accurately thus improving quality and outcomes for patients. There are some big issues to be addressed if we are to be successful and, ultimately, collaboration and ongoing dialogue with industry will be critical to enable the creation of a strategic approach and a solid foundation for the future.”
