The Secretariat carry out the work of the Association as determined by the Executive Board.
Doris-Ann Williams has been Chief Executive of BIVDA since October 2001. She has more than 30 years’ experience working in the IVD sector and has had a variety of experience; initially in R&D and subsequently in commercial roles including international responsibilities.
Doris-Ann represents the IVD industry to a range of stakeholders, and sits on the boards and steering groups of a variety of initiatives. These include the Ministerial Medical Technology Strategy Group, with Innovate UK, the UK Pharmacogenetics and Stratified Medicine Network, and the Parliamentary and Science Committee as Vice-President.
Doris-Ann works closely with MedTech Europe and other global IVD industry associations. She was awarded an MBE in January 2011 and was recognised as a Friend of the Royal College of Pathologists in November 2012.
Chief Operations Officer
Helen is the Chief Operations Officer at BIVDA.
Helen comes from a procurement background and has held roles at NHS PASA in pharmaceutical purchasing and childhood vaccines, as well as pharmacy and diagnostics procurement for Surrey and Sussex Confederation, and National Contracts Manager for laboratory goods at NHSBT.
Helen worked for 11 years in a number of roles across UK and Europe at Abbott, leading supplier management and contract provision for managed services.
She is a member of the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply, has an MSC in Strategic Procurement from the University of Glamorgan Business School, and an LLM in Public Procurement Law and Policy from the University of Nottingham, School of Law.
Natalie joined BIVDA in February 2019 having worked at The Royal College of Radiologists for 17 years as both a Finance and Website Administrator and Membership Officer. As BIVDA’s new Operations Manager, she is responsible for managing the association’s day-to-day operations, including membership renewals, finance functions and database maintenance.
External Affairs Manager
Jon has almost ten years of experience in stakeholder relations and external affairs. He previously spent three and a half years working for the Parliamentary Resources Unit, developing and communicating healthcare policy to Conservative MPs, Peers and their staff.
He then spent time in consultancy specialising in private mental health provision, social care, dental and pharmaceutical policy. In the interim, before moving back to the healthcare sphere at BIVDA, he has spent spells at the CBI, handling stakeholder relations for the Director General, and running external affairs activities in the beverage and green energy sectors.
External Affairs Officer
Michael joined BIVDA in March 2020 and works as the External Affairs Officer. After graduating from Trinity College Dublin with a BA Hons in European Studies, he worked in advertising and communications campaigns in both Dublin and London. He holds a postgraduate diploma in Public Relations and Marketing and speaks Spanish and French. He assists Jon in representing BIVDA and the UK in vitro diagnostic industry to a wide variety of audiences.
