Shaping the Future of Diagnostics 

BIVDA is the national industry association for manufacturers and distributors of medical diagnostic tests in the UK, representing 97% of the industry and nearly 250 organisations.

We advocate on behalf of industry to ensure that medical diagnostics can play a part not only in the diagnosis of conditions, but in prevention and treatment of disease. Diagnostic tests perform a critical role, now more than ever, in all NHS services (the NHS conducts on average 1.5 billion diagnostic tests each year) and are key to tackling the post-COVID UK healthcare challenges.

BIVDA works to support members

Economically, diagnostic test manufacturers make a valuable direct contribution to the UK economy, employing more than 20,000 people and generating annual turnover of approximately £3.5 billion. There is significant room for growth in the sector – despite diagnostics being involved in 70% of clinical decisions, spend on diagnostic tests is just 2% of global healthcare funding.

Manufacturers constitute one of the most innovative industries within the UK Life Sciences sector, evidenced by the industry's central role in the COVID-19 pandemic response.
